About the Group Leaders
The
primary responsibility of group leaders is to help establish
a safe environment in which students can both receive support
and experience personal growth. Group leaders can help
you and the other group members set and work on the goals
mentioned above. Each group leader has his or her own style:
some take an active role throughout the duration of group
(e.g. guiding and directing individual self-exploration,
giving feedback, encouraging risk-taking) while other group
leaders are less active, tending to give group members
more responsibility for self-exploration. You are encouraged
to respond openly to what the group leaders are doing or
not doing.
Our
groups are led by our professional counseling staff, which
is composed of psychologists (licensed by the State of
California); doctoral interns completing their training
in counseling or clinical psychology; and doctoral practicum
trainees pursuing graduate study in psychology.
We offer groups to currently registered UCSB students. Click here for a current
list of groups and a brief description of each. Some groups may require an
initial interview while others are drop-in.
